exPt4 — Ridley’s next generation rescue

Here is the dataset for Caroline Ridley’s next generation rescue experiment. This experiment was established in fall 2008 in a new plot, exPt 4, in Hegg Lake WMA. Caroline sowed achenes originating from heads that flowered in 2006 in the INB1 experiment. Here is a doc with background and experimental design. Seedlings per planting segment were counted, measured, and marked with toothpicks in May and August of 2009. In 2010 we began tracking individual seedlings across years; distances along the tape were recorded to keep track of individuals.

Data for this experiment are stored in 2 csv files. The first file contains pedigree data, counts, and leaf measures for seedlings in 2009 by the unique planting segment identifier “blockRowPos.” The second file has plant status, leaf counts, and longest leaf measurements per plant and year identified uniquely by “cgPlaId” and “measureYr.” The two data files are related by field “blockRowPos.”

  1. Pedigree & 2009: Group recruitment, survival (May – August 2009), and longest leaf lengths are stored in csv file exPt4NextGenPedigree.csv with the following fields:
    blockRowPos — block; row; position / text
    crossType — cross type: Br = between remnants, Wr-l = within large remnant, Wr-s = within small remnant / text

    achCt — count of achenes sown / integer
    plantingNote — planting note / text
    slingCtMay2009 — seedling count in May 2009 / integer

    aliveSlingCtAug2009 — alive seedling count in August 2009: possibleSlingCtAug2009 – count of seedlings that died between May and August 2009 / integer
    longestLvsAug2009mm — longest leaf lengths in mm of seedlings alive in August 2009, separated by “;” / text
  2. 2010 – 2012, 2014 – 2017: Individual survival and longest leaf lengths are stored in csv file exPt4NextGenMeasure.csv  with the following fields:
    cgPlaId — common garden plant Id / integer
    measureYr — year of observation / integer
    blockRowPos — block; row; position / text
    plaStatusDesc — plant status description / text
    lfCt — leaf count / integer
    longestLf — longest leaf measured in cm / integer
