exPt6 — Gretel & Nicholas’s Echinacea Hybrids

Here is the dataset for Gretel and Nicholas’s Echinacea hybrids. Seedlings grown in the lab were planted in exPt6 in 2012.

Data for this experiment are stored in two csv files. The first file contains pedigree data. The second file has plant status, leaf counts, and longest leaf measurements per plant for years 2013 – recent. Additional individual leaf measurements are included for years 2013 – 2015. Herbivory data are included for years 2013 – 2015, see descriptions of “damageNote” and “otherNote” fields below. “cgPlaId” and “measureYr” uniquely identify each plant and year measured.  The two data files are related by field “cgPlaId.”

  1. Pedigree: Pedigree and planting data are stored in csv file exPt6HybridPedigree.csv with the following fields:
    cgPlaId — unique plant identifier / integer
    exPt — experimental plot identifier / integer
    row — row identifier; row 701 (formerly S) or 702 (formerly N) / integer
    position — position identifier; distance in meters from West edge (metal flashing) of exPt / decimal
    plugID — plug tray identifier; to link to individual achene / integer
    podID — pod identifier (grouping of achenes within petri dish?); to link to individual achene / integer
    seedID — seed identifier (placement of achene within pod?); to link to individual achene / integer
    letNo — maternal head identifier for harvest / text
    cgHdId — maternal head identifier / integer
    paintColor — Nicholas’s painted bract color identifier / text
    crossType — cross type: maternal_paternal; “ang_pal” except “ang_NA” where identity of paternal pallida is unknown/ text
    maternalID — cgPlaId of maternal plant in exPt1 / integer
    paternalD — paternal pallida plant identifier (tag for Nicholas’s) / text
    matRowPos — row and position identifiers for maternal plant in exPt1
    harvestYr — year of maternal head harvest (2010 for Gretel’s or 2011 for Nicholas’s experimental heads) / integer
    dtPlanted — date planted / date (YYYY-MM-DD)
  2. Plant measures: Individual survival, plant measurements, and limited herbivory data are stored in csv file exPt6HybridMeasure.csv  with the following fields:
    cgPlaId — common garden plant Id / integer
    measureYr — year of observation / integer
    measuredByInit — initials of measurer / text
    recordedByInit — initials of recorder /text
    measureTsp — time of measure / date/time
    plaStatusDesc — plant status description / text
    basalRosetteCt — basal rosette count / integer
    basalLfCt — basal leaf count; based on ind leaf measures in 2013 thru 2015  / integer
    longestBasalLf — longest basal leaf; based on ind leaf measures in 2013 thru 2015 / integer
    otherNote — other note; 2013 herbivory extent recorded here (some herbivory, herbivory, extensive herbivory) / text
    otherDamage — other damage / text
    damageNote — damage note; 2014 herbivory (eg “4 cm lf nibbled”) and 2015 herbivory (presence of herbivory orig recorded as “H” updated to “herbivory”) / text
    lfWidthMm — widest leaf in mm; recorded in 2013 only / integer
