exPt9 — Lydia’s Echinacea Neighborhood

Here is the dataset for Lydia’s Echinacea neighborhood. Lydia germinated both Echinacea angustifolia and E. pallida achenes from plants growing near each other at Hegg Lake.  These nearby plants, with overlapping flowering times, have the potential to hybridize. With these plants we can quantify the hybridization potential for open pollinated, related species of Echinacea. Seedlings grown in the lab were planted in exPt9 in 2014.

Data for this experiment are stored in two csv files. The first file contains pedigree data. The second file has plant status, leaf counts, and longest leaf measurements per plant for years 2014 – recent. Additional individual leaf measurements are included for years 2014 – 2016. Herbivory data are included for years 2014 – 2016, see descriptions of “damageNote” and “otherNote” fields below. “cgPlaId” and “measureYr” uniquely identify each plant and year measured.  The two data files are related by field “cgPlaId.”

  1. Pedigree: Pedigree and planting data are stored in csv file exPt9HybridPedigree.csv with the following fields:
    cgPlaId — unique plant identifier / integer
    exPt — experimental plot identifier / integer
    row — row identifier / integer
    position — position identifier / decimal
    harvestID — harvested head identifier / integer
    species — Echinacea species; “ANG” or “PAL” / text
    plugID
    — plug tray identifier; to link to individual achene / integer
    positionOnHd — position of achene on the head; “top,” “mid,” or “btm” — top, middle, or bottom / text
    matPlantID — maternal plant identifier (tag or see harvest datasheet) / text
    dtPlanted — date planted / date (YYYY-MM-DD)
    note — planting note / text
  2. Plant measures: Individual survival, plant measurements, and limited herbivory data are stored in csv file exPt9HybridMeasure.csv  with the following fields:

    measureYr — year of observation / integer
    measuredByInit — initials of measurer / text
    recordedByInit — initials of recorder /text
    measureTsp — time of measure / date/time
    plaStatusDesc — plant status description / text
